Territorial and Consumption-Based Greenhouse Gas Emissions Assessments: Implications for Spatial Planning Policies

چکیده
The quantification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is increasingly important in spatial planning for regions, cities, and areas. combination territorial consumption-based accounting (CBA) approaches can currently be considered best practice calculating GHG at sub-national levels, terms informing local decision-making about the different climate impacts policies, both within boundaries a given region inhabitants that region. This study introduces four European case studies were conducted using two to assess locally relevant policies. represent scales planning, systems, situations data availability. Territorial results are not suitable inter-regional comparison, but rather internal monitoring, while CBA allows comparison provides comprehensive picture global carbon footprint residents, however, with indications more difficult link decisions. Assessing impacts, particular interpreting results, requires methodological understanding knowledge context. show setting targets monitoring success action through single net figure give false indications. shows quantifying provide complementary perspectives on level thus thorough emission patterns associated identification regional differences sources mitigation potentials main functions inventories impact assessment planning. Harmonization collection transparency underlying assumptions would greatly support coherence implications

Wellbeing Impacts of City Policies for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
To mitigate climate change, city authorities are developing policies in areas such as transportation, housing and energy use, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to their effects on greenhouse gas emissions, these policies are likely to have consequences for the wellbeing of their populations for example through changes in opportunities to take physical exercise. In order to explore...

The pace of activity around climate change legislation picked up noticeably in 2007. The increased focus brought new legislative proposals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). These bills include cap-and-trade systems, and carbon taxes1 as well as energy bills that promote energy efficiency or renewables (Table 1). Many also include support for research and development for emission reduci...

global climate change is expected largely to disrupt physical and biological systems during the second half of the twentyfirst century (Parry et al., 2007). anthropogenic greenhouse gas (gHg) emissions have long been identified as the drivers of such change and, unless societies prove capable of curbing the continual rise in the concentration of those gases in the atmosphere, the costs of adapt...
